What to do before the roofer arrives.

A few things that keep the damage small. None of them involve going up on the roof.

Catch the waterA bucket under the drip and a towel around it. If the ceiling is bulging, a small hole lets the water through in one place instead of bringing the plaster down.
Move what you canFurniture, electronics and anything under the leak out of the way, and the power off in that room if water is near a light fitting.
Stay off the roofWet slates and a ladder in the wind are how people get hurt. Leave it to the roofer.
Take photosOf the ceiling, the wall and anything on the ground. Your insurer will want them.

Do you really answer at night?

Yes. The mobile, 087 645 9553, is on 24 hours for emergencies. If you can't get through, ring it again in a few minutes.

What does the emergency visit cost?

The survey is free. If the roof needs sheeting or a slate re-fixed on the spot to stop the water, you are told the price before it is done. The proper repair is priced separately, and you decide on that once the water has stopped.

Will you work in the rain?

Temporary work in bad weather is done only where it is safe. The proper repair waits for a dry day, because slating in the rain is bad for the roof and for the roofer.

Can you help with my insurance claim?

Take your own photos of the damage before anything is moved. Jordan can tell you what caused it and what the repair involves, and the written price can go to your insurer.

Is it really an emergency, or can it wait?

Water coming in, slates on the ground or a stack that looks loose: ring now. A damp patch that has been there a while or a gutter dripping: send the form and it is booked as a normal repair.
