Most gutter calls are one of three things: a joint that drips, a run that has sagged so the water sits in it, or a fascia board so rotten the brackets will not hold. The survey tells you which, and the price follows from that.

Leaking joints resealed or the union replaced, loose brackets refixed, a sagging run lifted back to its fall and a blocked outlet cleared. Done where the rest of the run is sound, so you are not paying for new gutters you do not need.

Gutter replacement

The old gutters and downpipes come down and new uPVC goes up on fresh brackets, set to a fall towards the outlet so the water moves. Cast iron is replaced in uPVC, or repaired if you want to keep the look of it.

uPVC fascia and soffits

If the gutter has been pulling away from the house, the board it hangs off is usually the reason. The old fascia and soffit are stripped, the rafter ends checked and repaired, and new uPVC fitted with vents so the roof can breathe.

How a gutter job is priced.

No gutter job is priced over the phone, because the price depends on things you can only see from a ladder. Jordan looks at the whole run, tells you whether it is a repair or a replacement, and gives you the price in writing. If the rafter ends behind the fascia are rotten, he shows you and prices that before any extra work. One customer's Google review of a job: "The quote was reasonable. Where a gutter run cannot be seen from the ground, Jordan surveys it with his drone, free, so the price covers the whole run and not just the stretch you can see from the garden.

What people ask before they book.

Can you repair a gutter, or does the whole run need replacing?

If the gutter is sound and one joint or bracket has gone, it is repaired. If the runs have sagged, the plastic has gone brittle or the fascia behind it is rotten, a repair will not hold and Jordan will say so. He shows you on the survey and you decide.

Do you replace the fascia at the same time as the gutters?

Only if it needs it. The gutter comes off to do the fascia, so if the board is rotten the two jobs are done together and priced as one. If the fascia is sound, the new gutters go onto the existing board.

Can you cap over the old fascia instead of replacing it?

You can, and some firms do, but it traps the rot behind the plastic. Here the old board is stripped, the timber behind it repaired and new uPVC fitted, and the survey tells you whether your board needs that or not.

Why is water running down the wall under the gutter?

Usually the eaves felt. Where the felt has rotted at the gutter edge, water runs behind the gutter instead of into it. An eaves felt tray goes in with the new fascia so the water is carried into the gutter.

Do you clean gutters?

Yes, and it is worth doing before winter. If the survey shows the gutters are past cleaning, Jordan will tell you rather than clear them and take your money.

Can I keep my cast iron gutters?

Yes. If you want the look, they are taken down, the joints resealed and the brackets refixed. If they have cracked or rusted through, uPVC is the usual replacement.
